[Entire show.] In obedience, exhibitors are judged on how well their dog responds to commands. Classes range from beginning level (in which dogs must be shown on leash) up to advanced levels (in which dogs are shown without a leash). There are also team obedience classes. In showmanship, youth are judged on their dog handling abilities. 4-H'ers are divided into classes based on age, plus a class for handlers and dogs who have previously won a purple in senior showmanship. Show ends with costume contest where youth and dogs are in costume.
