Description:
(1:53) Husker Harvest Days: We visited with the man who makes things happen behind the scenes at Husker Harvest Days. That would be show manager Matt Jungmann. We sat down with him at the end of the first day and got his thoughts on how the show was going. (6:19) Grain Markets: We had the chance to catch up on the markets with DTN's Todd Hultman. The grain market got some help early in the week as USDA released the September world agricultural supply and demand estimates, or WASDE, report. that's where we began the conversation with Todd on Wednesday. (12:40) Livestock Markets: We visited with UNL Livestock Marketing and Risk Management Specialist, Elliott Dennis. The consumer price index was released on Tuesday, which showed the fastest rate of increase since 1979. That news has put a little pressure on the cattle market. We began the conversation with Elliot by getting his general take on the markets. (20:07) Weather: A look at the forecast with Nebraska Extension AG Climatologist and "Market Journal" Chief Meteorologist Al Dutcher. (20:13) The Potato Leaf Hopper can be a thorn in the side of alfalfa producers and have been for many producers east of Grand Island. Producers here in Nebraska will typically have some warning as they tend to show up in Kansas before making their way to the cornhusker state. However, if treatment is needed there are some options available to producers. Market Journal's Mike Straub caught up with Extension Entomologist Bob Wright to learn more. https://cropwatch.unl.edu/2019/potato-leafhoppers-alfalfa • Become a show sponsor: https://marketjournal.unl.edu/sponsor-mj • Website: http://www.marketjournal.unl.edu • Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/marketjournal • Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/marketjournal • Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/market_journal
